Eugene Lewis is the owner of a food truck in New Orleans, La. Lewis applied for business Interruption insurance coverage that is a part of his insurance policy. Lewis was required to get coverage to take out a loan from the bank when he opened the food truck. Then, when everything was required to close in March and April because of the coronavirus he was positive that he would be able to apply for the coverage to assist his business.
Lewis then was informed by his insurer that since there was no “accidental direct physical loss” to his food truck, State Farm was unable to extend loss of income coverage at the time. Lewis is one of thousands of business owns nationwide who have been denied the “business interruption” coverage that was included into their insurance policies.
There are so many businesses that have found themselves in this insurance roadblock. Eugene Lewis’ advice to other business owners in this situation, is to fight. “Especially if you’ve been paying premiums for years, you should fight for it.”
